When a new Fortnite season begins, the previous season's sprite roster moves to the archive. This means those companions no longer drop from chests in live matches, but every sprite you extracted during that season stays in your collection. The tracker preserves all of them so your historical progress is never lost.
What happens to archived sprites

Archived sprites keep all their data: name, rarity, ability, variants, and the marks you gave them. If you marked Batman as Owned and Mastered during Season 3, those marks persist on the tracker indefinitely. The only change is that the sprite no longer appears in the live Season 4 grid — you need to switch to the Season 3 archive view to see it.
The archive view is accessible from the Seasons page. Select Chapter 7 Season 3, and the tracker repopulates with that season's full roster. You can still mark and unmark sprites in the archive, so if you forgot to log a Season 3 extraction, you can go back and update it.
Variant differences between seasons
Season 3 sprites used a different variant system than Season 4. Instead of Normal, Gold, and Cheat Master, Season 3 companions had Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Holofoil, Cube, and Quack variants — each with a different visual treatment. Some sprites had as many as eight variants (like Zero Point), while others like John Wick had only a single Base variant.
The tracker handles both systems. Season 3 cells show the original variant names, and Season 4 cells show the new tier names. This means your collection history stays accurate regardless of which season's naming convention a sprite uses.
